Let’s learn about the fear of the Lord…

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear
the LORD, and depart from evil.

Being wise in our own eyes means relying on our own wisdom and understanding which is humanly. That being said, we refuse to trust in God and His wisdom. It’s necessary to know and understand that human wisdom is not at all comparable to God’s wisdom.

Proverbs 1:7 says, “Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”

That knowledge leads to God’s wisdom. Human wisdom is full of errors and sins which lead to sinful behavior, however, God’s wisdom that is derived from the fear of the Lord is filled with purity and righteousness. This will protect a man from evil and will give him a deep understanding of departing from and avoiding what is evil.

Proverbs 8:13 says, “To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.”

Fearing the Lord is a choice. We must choose to hate evil and everything that is implicitly or explicitly forbidden in the Bible. In other words, we must practice and learn to prioritize God’s Word before everything: our family, our job, our emotions, and our feelings.
