How To Discover Your Passion?

Discovering your passion becomes easy if you pay heed to your inner self and voice.

Before we step into 2019, I would like to share with each one of you about “how” you can discover your passion in life. In case you think that I’ve been working towards my passion for years and years, I’m just a 19-year-old girl who found her passion lately. I understand the chaos you feel when you’re asked “what you’re passionate about?” or “what are your passions?” just to express the deadly silence and awkward expressions. I’d also been curious about passions and couldn’t actually discovered any of them until I came to know that passion is not mandatory to be related to earning or making money. It could be anything you “love to do”. It could be anything you “love to have”. It could be anything you are zealous about. It could be anything that determines your actions and influences your thoughts. So let’s talk about how I got my passion discovered. It’s a series of baby steps; little hints that your brain and heart give you which you should pay attention to.

I was in grade 9 when I started imagining and daydreaming about my professional life and career. I was always told to become a physician, but this choice was never imposed on me. I’m thankful about it. I had a free will to take any subjects I want and opt for any profession I wish. When I used to imagine myself in a hospital / clinical environment, I hated the thought. Alternatively, when I used to think of myself working in a business firm, I loved the thought. That was the first hint nature gave me to change my course.

When I passed grade 10, I decided to take commerce subjects in grade 11 and 12, but due to the stereotypical mindset of our society, choosing medical sciences over other subjects, my teachers forcibly asked me to take biological sciences. While studying those subjects for two years, I got sure that my mind is not compatible with sciences and that I can’t take them anymore. I used to find business-related articles appealing to me, so I used to take my study hours to read those articles and visit different tech companies’ website. What I found out was that my mind was more receptive to business-related stuff rather than sciences that I were studying in my books. That was the second little hint that drove me towards my passion.

As I decided to leave sciences and switch to Business Administration for my undergraduate program, the fire inside me began to burn so fiercely that I started surfing internet for any opportunities that can help me develop professionally as well as my skill sets. And BOOM! I found a nonprofit, The Joshua Wave, which works remotely. The founder was so inspired by my zeal to look for a mentor and an opportunity that he offered me a “Volunteer Coordinator” role at his organization as a volunteer. I was so glad to take this role because technically, I was going to be a Volunteer “Manager” at the age of 18 only without any prior business knowledge or experience.

Throughout this entire happening, you see, my own heart and mind were directing me towards my passion. As I joined The Joshua Wave, I got to know that “practical learning” and “business & entrepreneurship” are my passions. Currently growing in this organization, I’m not limited to one role only, I’ve taken the role of a Content Writer and Administrative Assistant as well. I assist them in page building of the organization’s website as well. This shows that I’m passionate about practical learning regardless of the role.

You see how your own heart tries to tell you about your passion? You just need to listen to yourself. You just have to figure out what you enjoy doing. Find out something that helps you forget your worries and mood swings because you’re enjoying it that much. Something that makes you lose track of your time is your passion. I repeat, THAT IS YOUR PASSION. If you always care about natural health, that may be your passion. If you enjoy photography only, that might be your passion. If you feel enthusiastic about helping others, that is your passion. Passion is an in-built quality which we have to discover, and every human carries some kind of passion in himself.

Keep going and don’t give up, Bravo!

Wishing you a Happy New Year and lots of blessings for the coming year! Discover your passion placed inside you by God Himself and pursue it fully. Good luck!
